When deciding on the perfect polished concrete look for your space, there are three main things to consider
Choose Your Polishing Method
You need to decide between two main methods:
- Mechanically Polished Concrete (MPC): This method involves multiple grinding and polishing steps to achieve a smooth, high-quality finish.
- Grind and Seal: This method involves grinding the surface and then applying a sealer to protect and enhance the floor.
Select Your Stone Exposure
You can choose how much stone you want to show through your slab:
- Nil Exposure: Almost no stone is visible. This look is smooth and refined.
- Minimum Exposure: Also known as the “salt and pepper” look, this shows a random amount of stone across the surface.
- Full Stone Exposure: The maximum amount of stone is visible, creating a dramatic and decorative look.
Pick Your Gloss Level
Decide how shiny you want your floor to be:
- Matte Finish: This provides a natural, industrial look and is easy to maintain. It’s a great choice for homes, cafes, and commercial spaces as it doesn’t show dust easily.
- Semi-Gloss Finish: This is the most popular choice. It offers a good balance of shine and ease of cleaning.
- High Gloss Finish: This creates a striking, glamorous look. It’s ideal for high-end homes and offices but requires more maintenance to keep it looking spotless.
Cost Considerations
For the Grind and Seal method, the price remains the same regardless of the gloss level you choose. However, for Mechanically Polished Concrete (MPC), there is a small increase in price as you move from matte to semi-gloss, and from semi-gloss to high gloss. This is because achieving a higher gloss level requires more time and effort as our team must polish the floor more times to reach the desired shine.
