How To
Choosing Stone Exposure
Why Choose Us for Levels of Stone Exposure?
At Levels of Stone Exposure, we pride ourselves on delivering unmatched quality and expertise in stone treatment. Here’s why you should…
Surface Polish
This is our most cost-effective polish. We grind the surface of the existing slab to create a smooth finish. Unlike Nil Exposure, we don’t grout the floor, so the focus is just on polishing the surface. This option provides a clean, refined look with minimal stone exposure and is perfect for those who want a polished floor on a budget.
Nil Exposure
This highly sought-after finish is achieved by grinding off the least amount possible so that almost no stone shows through. We usually offer this for newly poured concrete done to strict specifications to ensure a perfectly smooth surface. We then grout the floor to fill in any small holes and cracks, resulting in a sleek, smooth finish. Finally, we polish to your desired level of shine.
Minimum Exposure
Known as the “salt and pepper” look, this finish involves grinding off the top 1-3mm of the surface. This usually covers the entire floor just once. Some areas might show no stone, while others may reveal a little or a lot, depending on how the concrete was poured. It’s a popular choice for an industrial look and is commonly used in spaces like garages, restaurants, and outdoor areas. It’s also more affordable compared to Nil Exposure and Full Stone Exposure.
Full Stone Exposure

Random Exposure
Known as the “random” look, this finish involves grinding off the top 1-3mm of the surface.
This finish reveals the most stone through your floor. If the concrete is poured evenly and to the right specifications, you’ll get a full view of the stone. Achieving this look requires more work because we need to grind the floor 5-7mm to give us the best chance of full stone. This look is the most labour intensive and sometimes requires multiple passes at the 30 grit stage.
